Billfish Bonanza Tournament
Billfish Bonanza
Chasing Big Blues and Lively Blacks to kick off the season
November 24-26 2023
The Billfish Bonanza is one of three sanctioned tournaments hosted by Mooloolaba Game Fishing Club each year.
This tag and release tournament allows for light and heavy tackle fishing with a number of great trophies and prizes up for grabs. The Game Fishing season is just heating up in November and a lot of lively Blue Marlin are cruising through our waters. You can also find mature and baby Black Marlin feeding off schools of bait along with the occasional Sailfish and big Mahi Mahi.
As this is a sanctioned tournament, we ensure the rules are aligned with those set out by the Queensland Game Fishing Association and the Australian Game Fishing Association. All anglers must be a financial member of a club associated with the QGFA. However, we encourage everyone to come along and try their luck. We love seeing teams filled with families, women and junior anglers and we ensure everyone is catered for with some amazing prizes for Champion Junior Angler and Champion Female Angler.
The tournament also has prize categories for boats over and under 7m, so size really doesn’t matter! You’d be surprised how many times a smaller boat has out-fished the big ones.
The Billfish Bonanza begins with a Meet’n’Greet on Friday night. Here, we will host the Skipper’s briefing and ramp up the fun with a Calcutta. Saturday and Sunday will see you out on the water chasing the big fish. With a cease fishing in the afternoon on Sunday, you’ll have enough time to cruise home, clean up and return for the presentation dinner and awards night. Complete with a Last Man Standing draw, we try to make sure everyone goes home a winner!
